The backbone of WaterWay is its partners and ship brokers – a young and dynamic team having worked in the industry virtually throughout their careers. Added up, the experience of the three is extremely comprehensive. Their expertise areas excellently complement one another, making WaterWay capable of resolving any shipping assignment.


Thomas G. Frederiksen (born 1975),

Managing Director, Shipbroker and Partner

Thomas has studied International Economics. Prior to that he pursued a career in the Danish Army, attaining the rank of first lieutenant. He has worked in the industry since 1998, starting out as an apprentice at a shipping company in Svendborg. Since then, he has gained international industry experience from working in Norway, Germany and the UK. Upon returning to Denmark, Thomas held the position of Chartering Manager at a local shipping company until he founded WaterWay in 2004. Strongly focusing on exchanging experience and best practices as tools for further developing himself and the Company, Thomas is particularly experienced in wind turbine transportation.


Jens Madsen (born 1973),

Shipbroker and Partner

After a military career, Jens started as a shipping apprentice at Charles Petersen in Vejle in 1994 and has worked in the industry ever since. Apart from carrying extensive ship broking experience, he has also worked for chartering companies, ship owners and a trading house. Furthermore, Jens has gained international experience from positions in Germany and the UK. Most recently, he has held a position as a shipbroker at in Fredericia. He has special expertise in worldwide project cargoes.


Rasmus Rønne (born 1983),

Shipbroker and Partner

Prior to joining WaterWay in 2005, Rasmus worked at in Fredericia and at Robert Müller Schifffahrt in Hamburg. The latter position, where Rasmus acted as a purchaser of transport services, further strengthened his ability to view transport matters from the eyes of the client. Rasmus is particularly experienced in project cargoes, parcel booking and intra-European trade.


Luis Chao (born 1975),

Managing Director, Shipbroker and Partner, WaterWay Iberia

Luis started in the maritime industry as a Deck and Cargo Officer for major ship-owners in Spain. After this period he went ashore and obtained a high level of international experience working as Hub Operations Manager in Spanish, Portuguese and North African ports. Most recently, Luis worked at a Spanish shipbroking house until joining WaterWay in 2014. He is particularly experienced in shipping agency services, post fixing, logistics and port operations.


Javier Gonzalez (born 1971),

Shipbroker and Operator, WaterWay Iberia

Javier studied Business Administration before entering the industry in 1995, starting as a sales representative at one of the main ship-chandler companies in Spain. Since then, he has gained valuable experience within areas such as ship supply, technical stores, spare parts delivery, dry docking, and technical support for owners of vessels. Prior to joining WaterWay, Javier held positions as Regional Manager and Hub Manager at several companies. Javier’s core expertise lies within fields such as husbandry and technical supply.


Mona B. Oranen, Bookkeeper,

Mona, who is a highly experienced bookkeeper, is responsible for all parts of WaterWay’s finance function, including billing, accounting, financial controlling and reporting, and not least paying all supplier invoices on time.


Karsten Holdt, IT Administrator,

WaterWay’s IT systems are the lifeblood of our business, and Karsten's responsibilities are to ensure that we are always at the forefront of cutting edge technology, that our systems are always in operation, that they provide the best possible support for the Business, and that they contribute to added value for our clients. One of Karsten's main tasks is ensuring efficient handling of the more than 1,000 e-mails we receive every day from clients and partners.
